Fishing at Pakawau Beach is very popular with surf casting for Snapper, Gurnard, Kawhai and Rig. Pakawau Beach and nearby expansive intertidal flats has become the epicentre for Kingfish fly fishing. From Pakawa Beach Camp there is sea access for boats, fishing kayaks and jet skis. Shell fish can also be gathered from Pakawau beach including Cockles, Pipis and Tuatua.
